Elderly Chinese Man Beaten to Death

On January 28, 1878, an elderly Chinese man in Sacramento was beaten to death by a gang of boys. The surviving project record preserves only the basic fact of the killing and indicates that roughly ten to fifteen boys took part in the assault. As with many lesser-known cases of anti-Chinese violence, the victim’s name and the fate of the attackers remain unclear.
